THE STORY
A LIFE IN BOXING
Rick Morones Jr.'s journey in boxing began at 17 years old when he first stepped into his father's gym. By 18, he was already training professional fighters, displaying a natural gift for developing talent that would later catch the attention of the boxing world. Growing up in San Antonio's West Side, Rick was surrounded by a rich boxing culture that shaped his understanding of the sport's power to transform lives and unite communities.
His breakthrough moment came when HBO featured him on their prestigious 24/7 series, showcasing his training of James Kirkland in preparation for his bout against Canelo Alvarez. This national exposure validated years of dedication and cemented his reputation as one of Texas's premier trainers. The feature highlighted Rick's intense training methods, his deep bond with his fighters, and the gritty determination that defines San Antonio boxing.
But Rick's vision extended beyond the corner. In 2012, he founded TMB Promotions to bring high-quality professional boxing events to his hometown of San Antonio. Today, with over 25 events promoted and counting, he continues to bridge his roles as trainer and promoter, always guided by his motto: "God is in Control." His events have become staples of the San Antonio entertainment scene, drawing fans from across South Texas and beyond.
Rick's training philosophy combines old-school fundamentals with modern conditioning techniques. He believes in building fighters from the ground up — focusing on discipline, footwork, and ring IQ before layering on power and aggression. This approach has produced a roster of fighters known for their technical skill and warrior mentality.

The gym has always been more than a place to train — it's a second home for young athletes, a refuge from the streets, and a place where character is built alongside boxing skills. Dozens of young men and women have come through TMB's doors and left as better people, whether or not they pursued professional careers. That community impact is what drives the Morones family every single day.

OUR HOME
WHY SAN ANTONIO
San Antonio has one of the richest boxing histories in the United States. From legendary fighters to passionate fans, the Alamo City has always been a hotbed for the sweet science. TMB Promotions is proud to carry that tradition forward, bringing world-class boxing entertainment to a city that truly appreciates the sport.
The city's deep Hispanic heritage has fostered a profound love for boxing that spans generations. Families pass down their passion for the sport, filling venues with knowledgeable, enthusiastic fans who create an electric atmosphere. TMB events tap into this cultural energy, producing nights that are as much community celebrations as they are sporting events.
In partnership with Prince Ranch Boxing (PRB), TMB Promotions has expanded its reach while staying true to its San Antonio roots. This collaboration brings additional resources, fighter development opportunities, and national exposure to the local boxing scene. Together, they are building a pipeline from amateur standout to professional contender — all based right here in South Texas.
